The Velebit jeep photo safari is a nice way of discovering the region for those who don't walk.
Departure at 9 am after meeting in front of the Rajna hotel (on the main road) in Starigrad-Paklenica. Before going, a welcome drink will be served while your guide will present you the program of the day.
Once embarked in the Land Rovers we will head to the first point of the trip,on the Zrmanja river.
Decades ago, a very popular (mostly in Germany) western movie was shot there, it has now become a mythic location for all Winetoo Indian chief's fans !
The guide will provide you with informations, the panorama here is fantastic and you will surely take fantastic pictures.
Your way further will take you on the trail climbing towards Velebit mountain where you will make the next stop. This dust road was built under the Austro-Hungarian empire and was used as the main road linking the coast to the continent until the 1960's.
After a short break at a little chapel, you will get to the Tulove Grede summit (1120m).
Not only is the vista from here breathtaking, Tulove Grede is a splendid karstic phenomena made of amazing limestone cliffs.
Our trip continue through Mali Alan pass (1045m) where we pass on the continetal side of Velebit Mountain.
At 12.30 pm we will stop to have lunch in the prairie under an 150 years old lime tree. Calamari with potatoes or sea food risotto will be served as well as grilled meat, cheese, fruits, coffee, water and sweets ... In complete silence of nature at fresh and relaxing 1000 meters altitude !
After an hour lunch break, we 'll go for a short drive before stopping to stroll around a little.
Then we go back to the southern side of Velebit to a beautiful valley. 30 minutes walk from here is 200 meters deep cave Mamet. It is possible to go and visit it if you wish otherwise we drive further to the Zrmanja river. There some will make a little walk while others will swim and jump under the beautiful
cascades.
Finally, we will drive back to Starigrad-Paklenica where our trip ends around 6 pm.
